A Pieceful Giant

by

I had the opportunity to interview my 10-year-old son, Jared regarding both his most recent stop motion video, as well as his creative process. I feel fortunate to watch him as he “makes”.

What is a creative person?
Someone that is creative. They are very unique and imaginative.

Do you consider yourself a creative person?
Yes.

What have you made?
Stop motion videos, stuff in Minecraft – I’m a ‘Minecrafter’, trailers for movies that are not real, small movies.

Legos, friendships, lemonade, food, fun and awesomeness. I’ve always had more awesomeness.

What was the first movie you made?
“Lego. The Love Machine.” I was 9.

What inspires you to make new things?
Dan and Hannah and Robbie because I saw their videos and it was the very first once I’d ever seen and then I wanted to make some of my own.

How did you get the idea to make this claymation movie?
YouTube claymation videos.

How did you think of the storyline for this?
On my first video I was going to make a flower where everyday I take another picture so it grows. Then, I added extra detail to get more excitement.

What is your favorite medium to use when making a movie?
Legos because it’s just easier for me to think of things because the Lego sets always inspire you, and then you think about the sets and build your own thing they do in a movie, but make it original. Like in Star Wars they fight, so you make a bunch of guys fighting.

Do you plan to make other movies? About what?
Yes. I just think about it when I get materials and stuff. Usually I daydream and think about it, and look at things outside my window and see if they have anything to do with a video I could make.

Could you tell the readers the steps to make their own stop-motion video?
How to make a stop motion video:

  • Get the materials
  • Make a story line
  • Position your materials
  • Keep putting them in different positions
  • Take a picture every time

Is there anything else you’d like to say to your audience?
I’m probably going to make a YouTube channel. Subscribe to me. I’ll let you know when it has a title. You can follow me on Twitter @jaredjunior.
